- Kilueua Iki
-
Kilueua Iki is a small caldera in Volcanoes National Park. The lava bed below is 400 feet below the surrounding rim. I think it's one of the best hikes on the island. On a windy, rainy day, crossing the caldera is like hiking across an alien planet surface.

- Wild Goat on a Lava Field
-
We were hiking across a field of lava east of the Blue Lagoon on the Big Island of Hawaii and came across a small herd of wild goats. Goats were first brought to the islands by Captain Cook and, like most non-native species, are destructive to Hawaii's fragile ecosystem.

- Giovanni's Lunchwagon on Oahu
-
We discovered this graffiti-laden lunch wagon on the north shore of Oahu. Their spicy shrimp offering was hotter than an active volcano. Every bite brought tears to your eyes.

- Slithery Moray Eels
-
We saw these two moray eels in an ancient Hawaiian fishpond near Mauna Lani beach. One is sliding under the other one. Moray eels have rows of needle-sharp teeth in their exterior jaw--and an interior jaw that also has teeth. Among their favorite foods are fish and small crabs. At night, you can often see Morays slithering around the rocks on shore hunting for crabs. Photo by Debra.

- Hawaiian Green Turtle on the Beach
-
This lazy fellow is sunning himself on a Hawaiian beach. Lying on the beach aids in the turtle's digestion. Visitors to Hawaii see these magnificant creatures on the beaches and often come too close. These turtles are protected, and it's prohibited to come within 20 feet of them. Debra took this shot with a telephoto lens.

- Shipwreck
-
This piece of a wrecked ship lies on the beach outside of Kona Village, a resort on the Kona Coast of Hawaii that was badly damaged the Japanese tsunami of March 2011 and remains shut down. Both are emblematic of broken dreams. Photo by Debra.

- Pacific Humpback Whale Breaching
-
This Pacific Humpback Whale breached off the coast of Hawaii about 50 yards from our boat. It kept its eye on us as it circled our boat. Then it dove, its curiosity satisfied. Photo by Terry.

- Don't Walk
-
I took this shot at a pedestrian crossing in Queenstown, New Zealand. The guy looks like he strayed from the crosswalk and fell headfirst into an open manhole. No one else seemed to notice, but after I took this shot other people started aiming their cameras, and for a few moments this workman's legs became a tourist attraction. Photo by Terry.

- Terry in Russia in 2004
-
Me in St. Petersburg. We stayed in an apartment above a children's art school and museum on the Fontanka Embankment. When we went to the airport to fly home, we were taken aside by three Russian policemen with submachine guns. They demanded 3,000 rubles before they would allow us to leave. Later, Debra asked if I was upset about paying a bribe. I said, "No, the story value alone is worth more than that." Photo by Debra.
