Storm Warning is a suspense thriller. Sonny Marshall is the saxophone player in San Francisco's Storm Lake Blues Band. One evening during a performance, his friend David Fetchenheir tells Sonny that he's just seen a girl (Erin Hightower) who was kidnapped seven years ago and vanished without a trace. Fetch saw her at a truck stop in Wyoming a month ago and is convinced that the girl he saw is Erin. Intrigued, Sonny looks into the cold case and decides to try to find the girl.
He forms a reluctant partnership with the Sacramento police detective who caught the case. Katrina Hastings tells Sonny to leave it to the police, but he refuses. Together with Sonny's other allies, they begin a quest that will be more dangerous than they could have predicted. Because this was no simple kidnapping, and the people behind it are not common criminals.
A storm is coming, and it will be bigger and more violent than they could have imagined.

I am a huge fan of thrillers and Storm Warning was no disappointment. It was one of those where you can (and don’t even want to) put it down, and that is how you know it is a good one! The main character, Sonny, is very likable to both fellow characters and readers. He is very passionate about injustice, even if it gets him into sticky situations. And the situation he finds himself in in Storm Warning is definitely a sticky one.
After one of his friends thinks he sees a girl at a gas station who was kidnapped seven years ago, Sonny is determined to find her, not knowing that she is still alive. Because law enforcement is hesitant about his information, Sonny takes it upon himself to figure out what happened to the missing girl, getting him into both violent and emotional trouble. The days of voraciously devouring Christopher Pike books are long behind me, and this book transported me back to that time period of my life, when I loved thrillers. For a while now, I have only been into the self-development genre. Honestly, since becoming a parent I have become sensitive to content involving the harming of children, so I was a little worried that this book would be "too much" for me. But I couldn't put it down, even if I did have to quickly skim over a part or two. :) It's wildly descriptive and intriguing.
Because of my sensitive nature, I appreciated how the actual details of the kidnapping were not disclosed at the beginning. You immediately know that it's the main idea the book is centered around, but because we don't get to know the girl or her family, it doesn't seem so terrifying (thank you, lol). The author does a great job of drawing you into the characters' personalities some of the wording is eclectic and thus, the opposite of boring.
Whether you're into thrillers or just want something outside of your usual reading comfort zone, this book is likely to lure you in and make you hang on tight 'til the end! --M. Avalon
Terry R. Bacon is probably best known for his non-fiction titles focused on leadership and management. It is interesting to see an author in this field cross over so effortlessly into the realm of fiction! The book reads seamlessly, and it is clear that he is already a professional in this new genre.
This classic thriller details the investigation of a missing child. The main character Sonny Marshall is a jazz musician, but he is much more than that, as there are two sides to him, with clearly his love of justice being the most prominent. He is reminiscent of many a classic American hero, living a normal life on the one side, while saving lives, often beyond the law, on the other side.
The pacing of the story and the action sequences are absolutely superb, and the Kat and Sonny make for a loveable duo. Some creative choices as well I found personally enjoyable. I loved the inclusion of the Armenians!
If you enjoy a classic American crime thriller, you can do no better than this book. --M. Fertitta
This is my first time to read a Sonny Marshall thriller, but I doubt it will be my last. From the first pages, I was sucked in. A girl has gone missing, and, no, it’s not Sonny’s business – but he’s as attracted to a mystery as we all are. When a potential lead falls in his lap, what else is he to do but pursue it?
The story, of course, is compelling, and the writing is smooth. I found myself flipping through pages same as butter. What happened to Erin? How did she wind up in Wyoming? Or did she? Has she been dead all along? I made the mistake of starting the book one evening before bed and ended up staying awake long past the hour when I should have been snoozing. It never hurts sharing a name with a main character!
The pacing of the novel is terrific, and there are way more twists and turns than I anticipated. I would not be surprised if it gets picked up for a limited series on Netflix or somewhere similar. I want to spoil one big reveal so bad! I’m waiting for a friend to read it so that we can talk about it together. What I can tell you for sure is that I can't wait to dive into my next Sonny Marshall thriller! --MMH
“Storm Warning: A Sonny Marshall Thriller” is a captivating read that will suck you in and leave you continuously telling your husband, “just one more page and I’ll turn out the light,” until you realize it’s 2:00am and your son will be up in three hours. Not that this happened to me ;)
This is the story of Sonny Marshall, a saxophone player with a desperate need to right the wrongs on the world. He is haunted by nightmares where he is unable to save a victim – be it from a fall, drowning, or whatever threatens them harm. It is this mindset that sends him on the search for a girl who went missing seven years prior. He joins forces with the detective who originally worked the missing girl’s case and continues to be haunted by her failure to bring the girl home.
Terry R. Bacon’s writing has echoes of Raymond Chandler and the private eye/detective stories that shaped the genre. From page one you can almost hear the rough, jaded voice of Sonny Marshall – a man who won’t tolerate injustice and, despite his better judgment, is drawn to solving mysteries that aren’t his business.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can’t wait for the next Sonny Marshall thriller. --MMH
I started reading STORM WARNING by Terry Bacon and could not put it down! What seemed an investigation into sex trafficking veered into a totally unexpected and unique direction.
Although Bacon's hero Sonny is flawed, his story is compelling, as is his integrity and undaunted need to save others. Haunted by a home invasion from his childhood, Sonny is driven to rescue young women who, in this case, have been kidnapped. But are things really as they seem? Why were these girls taken, and by whom?
This fast-action story is both character and plot driven, with strong male and female leads -- and just enough romance to spice things up. I read it in one (long) sitting! With no dull moments, unique intrigue, clever dialogue, and incredibly well-developed characters, STORM WARNING is a wild ride worth taking! --SF
